PROJECT HISTORY
This fundraiser to benefit local families in need was started nine years ago by knights Milt Spaniel, Bill Nosek, and Ed Keearns. The purpose of this project is to earn money by selling ham products, and give the money in the form of Christmas presents to needy children/families in the local community. This is a joint venture between Morrilton Packing and the Knights of Columbus Council 10208 to sell Petit Jean Ham products.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Serving as chairmen were Ed Doyle and Bill Nosek with statistician Tom Yerina, advertising director John Bodensteiner and flyer designer Mike Miller. Acting as advisors to the new chairmen were Bill Roe, Milt Spaniel, and Mike Welsh.

PROCEDURES IMPLEMENTED
1.   Bill Nosek ran the sales operation, and he worked with Mike Welsh to form sales teams for each mass on the following weekends: November 8/9, 15/16, 22/23 and December 6/7, 13/14, 20/21. Sales were restricted to six weekends by a new parish policy on solicitations.
2.   As had been done the two previous years, the just under $2,000 profit was split equally between the Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) and Mountain Pine School District, working with Jed Johnson and Shannon Currington, respectively. They took the $1,000 Walmart gift card and purchased gifts for not only the students in the schools, but for their siblings as well.
3.   In an effort to sell more products, Bill Nosek attended a LOSH meeting in November to give flyers to the ladies.
4.   A total of nine different Petit Jean products were sold with jalapeno and cheese deer sausage as a new item this year.
5.   A 10% credit on all ship-out items was negotiated.
6.   Ed Doyle, Bill Roe, and Mike Welsh assisted school personnel in delivering the gifts to 48 students on December 20.

HAMSTERS
Including the efforts of the hamsters who, along with all of the aforementioned knights, were scheduled for the masses by Buddy Dixon, Mike Kerwin, and Mike Welsh, there as a total of about 221 volunteer hours for this project.  Tom Ament, Bob Bowman, Tony Cifelli, Ed Cudworth, Tom Donnelly, Chris Gleason, Bill George, Bill Gribbon, Jack Griffin, Russ Harrison, Tom Hubert, Dave Johnson, Sam Justus, Ed Keearns, John Meyers, Dan Murphy, Bill Patterson, Larry Stein, Bob Steinpreis, Tom Thornton, Gordon Wilson, and Gary Wolfer.

SUGGESTIONS FOR 2015
1.   A disappointment was the number of recipient families who were not home at delivery time, so staging the presents at the schools for pickup by the recipients will be explored.
2.   A suggestion has been made to divide the six selling weekends equally between Easter and the Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays. If all or most of our current volume can be retained with only three sales weekends, the Easter campaign could result in substantial additional revenue.
3.   The possibility of selling products through other churches should be explored. If this can be done without creating a logistical nightmare, it will expand the revenue.
